The Green Guide for Eco Friendly Playtime

How to Green Your Child’s Toys and Playtime

In this green guide you’ll find a few simple steps to turn your child’s playroom into safe environment as well as some ideas for green playtime.

When my older daughter was born I wasn’t aware of how dangerous some of the plastic toys we buy her.

Then I started hearing about bispennol A and lead and all the other hazardous substances the toys contain. This is when I decided it’s time to go green and turn my daughter’s playroom into safe non toxic place.

Here is the green guide for eco friendly toys and green playtime:

Avoid Toxic Materials

Avoid toys that contain PVC, bisphenol-A, phthalates or lead which are extremely dangerous for young children and can cause cancer and harm the immune and reproductive systems.

Go for Eco-Friendly Alternatives

Choose non-toxic toys, paints and crayons. Toys made from recycled materials, wood (with non-toxic finish), wool, hemp or organic cotton, are excellent for your kid. Organic cuddly toys are especially safe for your baby.

Discover the Outdoors

Take your kids to play outside, it is so much fun to discover nature and to run around in the fresh air. If you have a garden or a back yard you can plant a tree or organic garden.

Get Crafty

Teach your kids the meaning of going green with fun eco friendly crafts. Let your child use his imagination and create beautiful things from used fabrics, plastic bottles, shoe boxes etc. Craft projects are also a wonderful birthday gift when your kid is invited to a birthday party.

Educational Games

For older children you can choose fun games that educate them about the environment. DIY solar power kits, water-powered toys or games designed to teach your child about saving the planet can be very stimulating and enjoyable.

Reuse Your Toys and Games

Don’t throw away used toys that are still in good condition, if you don’t need them anymore, there are plenty of others who would love to receive them. You can donate used toys to charity or to a hospital, you can sell them on ebay or give to another family relative.
