How to Make Recycled Paper - Introduction

Paper making is a great way to reuse and recycle unwanted paper reject. In this "how to make recycled paper" video series, crafts expert Toni King will show you the step by step process of making your very own paper at home.

Paper making is very simple. Crafts expert Toni King demonstrates how to take all of the junk mail you get, and turn it into beautiful handmade paper that you can use for making invitations, Christmas cards, birthday cards and little journals.

Not only will you be adding a personal touch to all of your paper crafts, you'll also be reducing your garbage and contributing to a green effort.

Since paper making is quiet simple, you don't need a whole lot of supplies, however, the most important piece is a mold and dackle which is basically a screen attached to a frame.

Things you'll need:

  • Paper (you can use your junk mail)
  • Big tub
  • Mold and dackle
  • Blender

In this first video you will learn how to mix pulp for your handmade paper.

First you'll need to decide what color you want your paper to be, and then run the paper through a cross cut shredder so that you get nice confetti.

To make the pulp, Toni fills her blender with shredded paper and some water. At this point you can also add dried flowers, herbs, glitter, etc… Then she purees the mixture until it is liquid with no chunks in it.

To finish this step, she pours the mixture into a big vat. (She uses bus tubs like restaurants use.)
