How to Make Recycled Paper

Using a Mold and Dackle

We are continuing with the How to Make Recycled Paper video series.

In this video, crafts expert, Toni King, demonstrates how to use a mold and dackle.

After you've made your pulp you need to add plenty of water to the mixture and stir it real well so that the particles are all suspended.

At this point, if you want to add a little sparkle to your paper you can add glitter to the pulp and stir again. Toni likes to use the really fine glitter (the powdery) because it blends well and it adds just a little hint of sparkle.

Now it's time to use the mold and dackle. Notice how she uses them, she puts them together and holds them real tight, she dips it into the water gives it a little shake to makes sure it settled properly.

Next, she drains all the water she can and very carefully lifts the mold straight up so that that paper will have nice fine edges.

If it doesn't settle evenly or if for some reason you just don't get enough defined edges all you have to do is dump it right back in and let it just gently touch the water with it and it comes off of your deckle.
