Bath time can be so much fun for kids, playing in the water with all those bath toys, washing up with smelly soaps and drying up with a soft towel.
What you might not be aware of, is that some of the products you use in your bathroom are unsafe and unhealthy for your kids. With some minor adjustments you can create a green bathroom clean from chemicals and toxins.
Personal care products are the first thing you should stat with when greening your child's bathroom.
Baby shampoo, soaps, toothpaste, lotions etc, they all contain harsh chemicals and hazardous ingredients that are unsafe for humans and might cause health problems.
This is why you should consider switching to a more healthy option - organic body care and organic hair care products. Just be sure to carefully read the labels and understand the ingredients even when you're buying organic products.
When you're shopping for new towels and washcloths, consider the organic option. It has a minimal impact on the environment and it's safer for your child's skin.
Organic cotton towels, for example, are softer and healthier for your baby, since they are free from chemicals and toxins, which might prevent skin allergies and sensitivities.
Look for BPA and phthalate-free bath toys.
Most bath toys contain Bisphenol-A, and phthalates that can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, and reproductive systems. Now, think of your child's favorite ducky and how many times did he put it in his mouth, it makes you shudder.
Give your child safe
bath toys free from
these chemicals.
To make your bathroom greener you can switch to organic décor. Organic fibers bathmat and cloth shower curtain made of cotton, hemp, or bamboo might be an excellent choice for your bath. (Instead of the vinyl-based plastics shower curtain).
Consider using accessories made of bamboo, they will add a nice, clean touch to your bath plus they are safer to the environment and your child.
Clean your bathroom with eco-friendly cleaning products or make them by yourself.
Most conventional cleaning products contain fragrances and petroleum-distilled chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), that vaporize into the air. Your child inhales these toxic fumes which can provoke respiratory problems and asthma attacks.
Consider using safer brands now available in most major supermarkets or go for a simpler alternative of baking soda and vinegar to clean your bath.
With only a few adjustments you can turn your bathroom into a safer
healthier environment for you and your children. This is what's living
green is all about!
