Planting Trees - Kids Green Activities

Planting trees is one of my favorite kids activities. It is an enjoyable activity in which everyone can take part in.

Planting a tree will benefit you and your kids for years to come and will teach them the meaning of being responsible for their actions.

You can plant a tree in your back yard, in your neighborhood, school, local park or wherever you and your kid decide to.

"Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree."
Martin Luther

Why Plant Trees?

  • According to the UN statistics, we lose every day 49,421 Acres of forest, this adds up to 18 million Acres per year, when you plant a tree you help make up for the loss of trees.
  • Planting a tree is a fun activity that makes you feel closer to Mother Nature.
  • With this small but significant act you help countering climate change.
  • They are universally powerful symbols, a physical expression of life, growth and vigour.

Where Plant Trees?

Everywhere!

  • You can plant a tree in your back yard, gardens, or parks.
  • Arrange a planting day at school or in your neighborhood.
  • Or raise money at school for tree planting

What Your Kid Will Learn From Planting Trees?

  • Their actions influence the environment, just as the environment influences their actions.
  • Helping the environment is their obligation.
  • Trees are vital part of their lives.
  • Every small action makes a difference.
  • Responsibly - they will have to care for the trees, watering and protecting them.

Benefits of Planting Trees

  • Trees producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide and contaminants from the air. In one year, an average tree inhales 12 kilograms (26 pounds) of CO2 and exhales enough oxygen for a family of four for a year.
  • Trees’ root fibers help filter groundwater. They trap nutrients and pollutants that are potential contaminants.
  • Tree roots hold soil in place so it cannot be easily blown away by wind or washed away by water; Without trees, heavy rains can wash soil into streams and rivers, creating avenues for nutrient pollution and habitat destruction, and increasing the likelihood of flooding.
  • Trees absorb sound and reduce noise pollution.
  • Trees shade asphalt reducing what is know as the “Heat Island” effect.
  • They provide habitat for many different species of animals.
  • Planting trees can help cool your home in the summer and conserve energy.
  • In the winter, trees can act as windbreaks for your home and will help you save on heating costs.
  • Forests and trees offering recreational opportunities and spiritual comfort, looking at trees makes people feel better.
  • Planting a tree can significantly increase your property values.
  • Medicinal products from trees help to cure diseases and increase fertility.
  • Trees beautify urban and community areas such as parks, streets, and schoolyards.
