Scarecrow Crafts for Kids

Build a scarecrow from recycled materials

Scarecrow crafts, fun activity for all the family.

If you have a garden or planning to have one, building a scarecrow with your kids can be so much fun.

Scarecrow crafts In the picture, my daughter had a planting day in her kindergarten, we had to bring water-saving plants and to build a scarecrow out of recycled materials.

It is a great exercise for your kid, they can use their imagination to create the scarecrow, plus building it from recycled materials will teach them the meaning and importance of recycling.

You can use any materials you have at home and build a wonderful scarecrow. For the one in the picture we used:

For the head - we took an empty baby food container and coated it with gesso (base coating substance). Then my daughter painted his face (eyes, lips, cheeks).

The hair - my daughter wanted it to be a she scarecrow so we made her long hair out of a colorful plastic bag. We cut the bag into stripes and pined them on top of the container.

The arms – are made from soda bottles. We painted them with some acrylic paint mixed with water based glue (we used glue so that the paint will stick to the bottles).

The hands – I drew my daughter’s hands on a cardboard, we cut them and glue them each to a skewer, then we made a small hole in the bottle’s cap and inserted the skewer.

The body – we used an old shoe box. We flatten the box by opening it’s sides and cut it in the shape of a skirt. Then we decorated it with colorful stickers and crayons. To finish it we wrapped the body with plastic bag so that it won’t get wet in the rain.
